I WENT TO AN AESTHETICS EVENT: HERE’S WHAT IT Reminded Me About Beauty

Back in June, I hopped on the train to London and St. Paul’s to spend the day at one of the UK's biggest aesthetics conferences.

As someone who genuinely loves learning, it was exactly where I wanted to be. There were talks from some of the industry's leading professionals, loads of exciting new technologies (being demonstrated by some VERY technical people), and so many interesting conversations about where aesthetics is heading over the next few years.

I came away feeling super inspired… But I also came away thinking.

As I listened to speaker after speaker, one theme kept coming up again and again.

How can we make people look younger?

How can we smooth this line?

How can we delay or reverse the signs of ageing skin?

Lift that feature.

Restore lost volume.

Tweak this. Change that.

Now, don't get me wrong… there's absolutely a place for most of those conversations. Advances in aesthetics are fascinating, and continuing to learn is incredibly important to me. I want to be the best I can be for my clients; I truly believe they (or you, if you’re a client of mine - hello!) deserve a practitioner who invests in her education, keeps up with new techniques and tools, and totally understands all the latest treatments.

But on the long (delayed, thanks Southern Rail!) train-ride home afterwards, I realised something.

Those conversations reminded me why I started Glo in the first place.

I've Never Believed THAT AGEING IS SOMETHING TO BE SCARED OF

Sometimes, without even realising it, our industry can make ageing sound like THE most terrible thing in the world and that we should all stave it off completely.

Every new line becomes a problem.

Every birthday becomes another thing to fix.

Of course, social media certainly doesn't help. Scroll for long enough, and you'll find a never-ending stream of "perfect" faces, trending treatments and before-and-after photos that subtly do suggest we should all be aiming for the same look. “Instagram filter face” is a thing, gals.

But genuinely… I don't believe that's what aesthetics should be about.

I don't want anyone to sit in my clinic feeling as though they're broken.

Or behind. Or like they looked ‘better before’.

Or like they’re running out of time.

Because they're not.

You Don't Need To Become look like Somebody Else

One of the things I hear most often during consultations is:

"I still want to look like me."

I smile every time someone says it because that's exactly how I think aesthetics should work.

The aim isn’t to create an entirely different face.

It DEFINITELY isn't to copy somebody you saw on Instagram.

And it certainly isn't to chase every treatment that happens to be trending this month.

It's about helping you feel like the best version of yourself.

Sometimes that's softening a line that's been bothering you.

Sometimes it's improving skin texture after years of feeling self-conscious.

Sometimes it's simply giving you the confidence to leave the house wearing a little less makeup.

Those changes can be incredibly powerful.

Not because they change who you are.

Because they remind you of who you already are.

There Is No Such Thing As The Perfect Face

If there was one thing I wish every woman knew, it's this:

We do not have to earn our beauty.

We don't have to have perfectly symmetrical features.

Perfect skin. Perfect lips. Perfect cheekbones.

Those standards change every few years anyway.

What was fashionable ten years ago isn't fashionable now, and today's trends will eventually disappear too.

Your face isn't a trend.

It's yours.

And I think that's something worth protecting.

Education Will Always Come Before Treatment

One thing the conference reinforced for me is just how important it is to keep learning.

The science behind aesthetics is constantly evolving, and I believe it's my responsibility to stay up to date with the safest techniques, the newest innovations and the highest standards of care.

But education isn't just for practitioners.

It's for clients too.

I never want someone to book a treatment because they've seen it all over TikTok or because somebody else told them they "need" it.

I want every client to understand their options, ask questions and feel confident making a decision that's right for them.

Sometimes that decision is to go ahead, and sometimes it isn’t.

And both are completely okay.

My Promise To Every Client

If you ever visit Glo, here's what I can promise you:

  • I'll never recommend a treatment because it's fashionable.

  • I'll never encourage you to change the features that make you uniquely you.

  • I'll always be honest if I don't think something is right for you.

  • And I'll always believe that the healthiest, happiest and most confident version of you is far more beautiful than chasing somebody else's idea of perfection.

Because to me, that's what aesthetics should be.

Not about becoming someone new.

Just about helping you see what was already there all along.

Stay beautiful, ladies. Because you all already are.

Love, B x
